It's still going on

The last thing I need to do now is deal with cynical and a bit vicious comments from people on other blogs.

There is never symmetry when two sides are fighting and both are suffering, there is always someone who suffers more at a given time, my heart also hurts because of the innocent people of Gaza but I have to deal with my fears and anxieties here at this time.

I try to ignore the cynical and superficial comments and I myself do not understand why I care so much about them. I want to thank all the wonderful people in Blogland who respond in simple and warm words, you have no idea how important and helpful it is here.

I'm so glad that at least in my blog there are such wonderful people who know how to express compassion and say a good word. It also surprises me how important it is to me.

My daughter has been in the protected room of her house for four days and nights, just last night more than a hundred rockets were fired at her settlement.

The farthest they can go out is to the living room of the house and even then the ears and eyes are constantly open.

It's still quiet here but I hear a lot of explosions all the time and at night I can see the flashes of Iron Dome.

  1. I was discussing the situation you are in a few days ago, as I walked through a bluebell wood with a dog walking friend. We agreed that we could not even start to imagine what it must be like for the innocent inhabitants of both places. How are your grandchildren coping? They must be so frightened. I hope that it will soon be over and you can feel safe again. Thinking of you. X

  2. PS. Please don't be upset by casual comments...most of us don't really understand the "whys and wherefores".

  3. Thank you Frances. My daughter knows how to manage such situations so well, the children to my joy are not anxious and they spend time in their occupations in the protected room, they sound happy and in order, and all this because my daughter gives them the confidence and joy of life that accompanies them.

  4. Hi Yael.Sorry you have to put up with illinformed comments from people who think they know better.
Children are so redilient, I remember hearing the bombers overhead, the sirens, the rush to the shelter. As a child, there was an element of fear, but also a feeling of excitement. Seeing the damage next day was part of what happened. I am 81 years and am speaking of the bombing of London.
May it soon be over. xxxx

    1. Thank you Kathy. What you describe is a much more difficult experience, I imagine how it is burned into memory. My daughter who lives 35km from here just called and asked me to pay attention if there are no TV alerts about alarms in her area because she had to go out to buy food for her and the kids. I'm with one eye on the TV to let her know if there's anything. What a strange reality in which we live.

  5. I am so pleased to hear from you this morning Yael. I know if I hear from you then you are safe. I know that many do not understand the particular situation where you are and unless one has any familiarity with history it is easy to write it off as another "something going on in the Middle East, far away". I understand the seriousness of the situation and it frightens me to think about it. Thank you for staying in touch Yael and good wishes to you from me and may it soon be over.

    2. I was going to write about the history yesterday but I held back from doing so. In fact I started to write but did not publish. I wondered if anybody would believe me.

  6. Yes, the last thing you need to hear is distant people's opinions, especially ill-informed ones. The only thing I know for sure is that innocent people are suffering on both sides of the fence.

  7. My thoughts are with you Yael, though I have never in the past spoken. War has no mercy to either side and I hope you and your family keep safe in the present conflict. Thelma X

  12. I was telling my husband how frightening it must be when you cannot even have a shower without being ready to run for shelter. I know you from our blogs and I think of you and your family. I really hope it all stops quickly

  13. Thank you for letting us know you are okay. I'm sure you don't feel okay though because this must be so difficult for you. I think of you often every day and pray for your safety and comfort. You are helping other people to understand what people in some parts of this world have to deal with. Our world needs all the understanding it can get. Be safe!

  14. Thanks Bonnie. People get general information from the media and usually think in general terms of good and bad, strong against weak or right and wrong, forgetting that there is an everyday life here with all the little details that this situation dictates, it is difficult for each side.

  15. So pleased to read your blog as it shows you are still safe. Take no notice of trolls as too often they have no idea of exactly what is happening [and they invariably have opinions on EVERYTHING]. Stay safe, you have a lot of genuine friends who follow your blog, and worry in times like the present.

  17. My son lives in Tel Aviv but I haven't heard a word from his during this last week. Either he is afraid of worrying me or he is doing his best to ignore the rockets. Thankfully the DIL writes and Joe's brother in Petach Tikva rings regularly.

This weekend we will be thinking of you in shule on yom tov. Be safe.
