Life here

This is another experience and challenge that life has given me. It's only been three days and it seems like much longer..

You have to be glued to your iPhone because that's where the alerts come from that missiles have been launched from Iran. These are very, very deadly and destructive missiles. Running to the shelter and waiting for the alarm, and the sound of explosions outside.

Several times a day and several times during the night. A kind of Russian roulette when I go to the small supermarket ten minutes away from home, and the shower is also a kind of gamble. No one wants to be caught by an alarm in the middle of a shower.                                                                                                                 I'm fine and will continue to update. Thank you to all the wonderful people who say a kind word and care. You are true friends.

    1. The Iranian people and the Israelis are united this time in an attempt to return to the people the peace they deserve. It's only the Iranian regime that's causing all this horror to happen. I don't understand which sides you're talking about.

  3. I saw a photo of my grandson's safety area, and although it was clean and equipped, I wouldn't like to be a claustrophobic person :(
Israel must be just about the smallest country in the universe (not counting islands) and you need green forest areas to breathe in. Be safe, sister.

  4. Everything here is green and blooming this season, nature and our gardens. We will get through this too. Thank you Hels.

  5. Trying to live a normal life must be so difficult. It's so unfair.

    1. Yes, it's not fair, I try to maintain a routine as much as possible.

  6. I've been thinking of you a lot. Hoping you stay safe and so sad that you have to endure this again. Thank you for your very local comments on the Iranian people. I needed to hear that, because we tend to hear about government moves without knowing if they're a national sense. I know Iranians have been resisting greatly, though, against terrible reprisals. Praying for your safety now.

    1. Thank you. People don't see the whole picture and because they hate Trump so much they don't understand the situation as it is. Thank you for thinking of me. Every kind word is so important here.

  8. Thank you Ellen, as much as it depends on us we try to protect ourselves. Always on alert to hear the alarms and run to the shelter, everything else is just fate and good luck that will be with us.

  9. Thank you for letting us know you're safe at the moment. I thought of you from the moment this began. We are getting endless live updates from Israel. You need even stronger nerves now. All my love

  10. Thank you Linda, you always say the right word at the right time. I read your blog all the time, I don't comment because there is little time between alarms. It will come back.

  11. My heart goes out to you Yael. I could not survive in this environment of bombs and war. Life is so unfair. War means death and destruction. When, if ever, will peace be achieved?

    1. Susan, Thank you for your concern. Apparently we are more capable of overcoming things than we think. I always panic before things happen, but in the moment of truth everything is fine and I act calmly.

  12. Oh, I am so glad you posted! I have been wondering about you these past few days; happy to know you are okay. I am constantly scrolling for the latest updates. May you and everyone remain as safe and unscathed as possible. Praying it will end sooner rather than later, with some real changes for the better, finally. Nothing is certain, unfortunately, sadly. But hoping and praying.

  14. Yael,
Sending you big hugs from London. You're in my thoughts.
The Ayatollah is dead, Trump needs to see this through now to the end. Israel has to keep fighting to stabilise that country.
    Stay safe.

  16. I am so relieved to hear from you, that you are as safe as can be. Israel is the only state in the region which provides shelter for its citizens, all the other ones don´t really care for their safety. What will happen now that the Ayatollah is dead? I am afraid there will just be a new one. Is there a Muslim democracy anywhere? I am afraid this is impossible.
You are in my prayers, and your family and your country, too. Sending hugs and love,
    Hilde in Germany

  18. So frightening to live under this constant threat. Lets hope those who want change in Iran make it happen.

  20. The first bombs to drop on London landed in Aug 1940. London’s docks suffered from Day 1 of the Blitz, when German planes dropped hundreds of tons of bombs. Throughout the Blitz, ending in May 1941, the poorest families of the East End suffered the worst, from bombs and from fires. Hundreds of civilians died :(

I don't think the world has learned anything about preventing evil to civilians.

  21. Thank you for posting about your experiences. It's important for the rest of us to be reminded what it's like for those who are going through this on the ground.

I hope it will be encouraging to remember that this time, if the campaign succeeds and that wretched theocracy is finally overthrown, this should be the last time you ever have to go through this.

  22. I’m so glad that you are safe and were able to post. I’ve been thinking about you and was praying all was well. I’m hoping that all the madness will soon come to an end and your life can go back to normal again. I can only imagine how hard it must be to live with the constant fear of bombs coming in at any time day or night. Wanda, NC USA
