A bit about trolling

The phenomenon of blog trolls is known to some of us, those of us who represent controversial issues get their frequent visits and offensive comments. I, being who I am, have had the many visits of the trolls, I make sure to delete them but the sharp-eyed see them right away.                                                                              During times of war here, when the anxiety is great, the attacks of the trolls always increase and in a way that is difficult for me to explain, because these are just words, it always increases my anxiety. In times like this I feel that I have very little energy left for arguments and certainly not for threats.                                   The trolls are always anonymous, I already know their style, they always say that they have some Jewish side and this seems to give them the right to use the harshest and most extreme criticism there is. Sometimes they insult in a very personal way. Some of my good friends in blogland avoid my blog comments during times like this because the trolls get to them too.

Recently I was wrong, because of an extreme and even very bad comment, by an anonymous writer with a name that trolls really like to use, and from about the same location, I thought she was a troll and I understand that I offended her. I am of course very sorry for that, but I don't have much to do with it other than try to suggest to the commenters to open a real profile and thus not fall into such unfortunate mistakes.

    1. Thank you Mary, I was sorry for offending this woman even though her comment on top of my comment on one of the blogs was very harsh and hurtful.

  3. Can you not have all comments published only _after_ you have read and approved them? I wouldn't want any unexpected and unapproved bit of nastiness to appear in my own blog.

  4. At the moment certain people think they have a good excuse to show their real characters. They march around the streets, they attack buildings with religious connections, and they insult people on blogs. It doesn't happen to Russians, and it doesn't happen to Palestinians; both of whom have been the aggressors. One really has to ask why.

    1. Cro, you certainly know what this is about, those trolls didn't give up on your blog either.

  5. Nasty comments from trolls give me a very resentful feeling. How dare they. They can't, don't understand my life, my viewpoint. It doesn't happen often on my blog but I write about the rosy side of life.
How can they understand what you're going through living in their completely different lives, safe in a country without war. Delete and try to forget

    1. That's what I do, but the last event made me think again about the twisted world of trolls.

  6. I don't allow anonymous comments on my blog, so people have to be signed in to comment. I think that helps keep conversation civil. I don't mind people disagreeing with me but I'd like them to be reasonable. (And obviously you're in an especially precarious state given the conflict there; you'd think people would recognize and respect that.)

    1. I don't have a problem with differences of opinion either, but when it's a matter of life and death, as happens here most of the time, I wonder how much insensitivity people have that it's so important to them to publish their opinions based on pieces of information, and present it as the one and only truth.

  7. Being a banal sort of person, I don't get trolls or very very seldom anyway. So, I will continue to be banal for the most part. You carry on though and say what you need to say.

    1. You are not banal, you live a different life and write about it very beautifully in my opinion. Sometimes I also try to be "banal", but life here does not always allow that.

  10. I think you are in a no win situation Yael , your country’s situation sadly polarises opinion…..
    It helps no one
I keep my mouth shut and get berated for that lol

  11. Until a reasonable path forward, toward peace is reached, people from all sides are hurt. Watching the war from the US is disheartening, I can imagine how much more difficult it is for you.

  12. Susan, it is almost impossible to negotiate peace with terror organisation, I wish there will be something we could do. Also regarding our terrible government, there is a little hope. Yael

  13. Oh, Yael, I wish there would be peace - in your
    heart, mind and country!
Praying that you and those you love are safe and well, Mary

  14. Hi Yael

They don't know anything about you. They have no depth to their points of view. And, as you say, they always try the old 'I'm a Jewish person' as if it gives them latitude.

It's just part of the life. They stink, but try to not let it bother you too much. From the comments on this blog, you have a lot of lovely friends with nice comments to compensate. :)

    Stay strong

    Liam.

  15. Indeed, there are also wonderful people here who know how to say a kind word that is so important in times like this. Thanks for the comment.

  17. I moderate all comments on my blog, so none are published without my ok. I of course do approve and publish them all, except for the few that are spam trying to sell something weird. May God bless and protect you and Israel in these times of danger.

  18. Thank you Terra. Above you can see some variation of anonymous comment which can be a light trolling. Why should someone comment without identity? Yael

  19. I am signed in with google, but it will not let me comment.
May I comment that accidents happen in war (and at other times)
I think its a good idea if anon commenters reflected longer on what they say.

How is your garden Yael, mine us beginning to thrive in spite of the weather, what new flowers have you now ?
It always helps me remember how much beauty there also is in the world. Like the flowers on the bomb sites in London after the war.
Hope you dont mind my comments Yael.
    Thinking of you . Kathy
