I am not good at small talk , I also don't know how to tell a story.
Half of my working years i had to speak in front of people, i did not like it, the other half (16 years) i had to listen to people, i was really good at the second half.
I think those are the main reasons why i am also not so good at blogging.
Oh Yael ... I think most of us have doubts about our ability to speak, especially to a crowd. The only problem with blogging is unless you speak [write] then we cannot listen [read]. I think that the dog likes to sleep!!
ReplyDelete[And yes, I cannot talk as I haven't blogged for more than a year ... words have dried up at the moment.]
I miss your blogging Shirley.
DeleteI'm curious Yael, what was your job?
ReplyDeleteOne day i shall blog about it Sue.
DeleteYou write and listen well. A lot can be said in a few words. You are a very astute reader which goes a long way with me.
ReplyDeleteThank you Rachel. In Hebrew i can write more, but i like the comunication with people from other places.
DeleteI wish I was better at the second half. That is a rare skill these days.
ReplyDeleteIt easy for me.You write so beautiful,i wish i could write like you,
DeleteThat is a nice thing to say, Yael, but remember that English is my first language. There is a culture hear (pointed out by John recently) that most people do not listen but just think about their reply. I believe this is a by-product of the ammount of cocaine taken by everyone here - including many of our politicians.
DeleteI mean 'here' of course. See? Not so hot with English after all!
DeleteI should say "it is easy for me",only now i've noticed.
DeleteNone of us should compare ourselves to the incomparable Mr. Stephenson. I will only lead to self-loathing.
DeleteThat is a lovely picture of contentment.
ReplyDeleteI've never given much thought to my communication skills. That's not necessarily a good thing.
Thank you Joanne. For some unknown reason communication was always important to me. may be i've spent too much time thinking about it, we communicate any way, even if we don't think about it:)
DeleteI suspect listening is a more valuable skill than talking.
ReplyDeleteI am ok with talking too, but i prefer listening.
DeleteWhatever you write is interesting. You write about your life in a place most of us know little about.
ReplyDeleteMy English gets worse and worse. I have too many years listening to a foreign language and I have forgotten the right words I want to say. I need a dictionary always.
Thank you, i know a lot of people here who came from other countries to live here and speak Hebrew so well, i admire them.
DeleteBlogging is also about prompting conversation. Israel is a wonderful country that has battled through so much adversity; it's always interesting to learn more.
ReplyDeleteThank you Cro,a lot of times i've found myself wishing to live somewere else, but most of the time life is ok here.
ReplyDeleteYou must be a very self confident person to speak in front of a lot of people, so you were good to do that!
ReplyDeleteI think you also have a lot to say Yael, but it is not always easy to say it in another language.
Greetings Maria x
Yes it it harder for me in English, strange that i can understand so many languages only by hearing them, but writing is not so easy for me.(in Hebrew i write well:)
ReplyDeleteYael, both you and Maria write beautifully in English. Your command of our language is so much better than ours is of anyone else's. We are very lazy and expect everyone to speak English, wherever we go.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Coppa's girl, Maria is writing in beutiful English (and from her comments i know that she is a beautiful and very kind person), about me i am not so sure, but your comment is so kind, thank you again.
ReplyDeleteOh Yael, you are so, so sweet and very kind, Thank you so much for your gentle words and also thank you, Coppa's girl for the compliments on Yael's and my English :) xx
DeleteI am so glad to see you back Maria, you realy have great English, mine is not so good as yours.
DeleteI think you are good at it. Your blog is always pleasant to read.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Harry, you are always so kind and helpful.
ReplyDeleteI think you write very well especially considering that English isn't your first language! I love hearing about your life in Israel. And I know that you're a kind and loving person. The world needs more Yaels.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Jennifer,i think the same about you:)
ReplyDeleteLovely to get another post from you Yael. I wish you would write more often. You need not worry about your English, as it is very good, and much better than some people who have it as their first language. ( I am not referring to any bloggers that we know here!). All your friends (readers) would love to know more about your country and your life there, as it is a country that most of us know very little about. If there is a word slightly out of place no one minds! XX
ReplyDeleteYou are a good freind Frances,i shall try to write more often,i have not decieded yet if this blog is about me or about my country, may be i don't have to decied. And thank you for ignoring all my grammer and spelling mistakes:)
ReplyDeleteI am sure that we, your friends, would be very pleased to hear about your life and your country..the weather, the shopping, travelling, your pets, your grandchildren. What you like to eat/recipes. Anything really. X
ReplyDeleteI think listening is very important - and a virtue that not many people exercise nowadays.
ReplyDeleteThank you Britta,welcome back.
ReplyDeleteI fear I'm not a clear communicator (speaker) in my daily life & try sometimes quite hard to be understood. Sometimes this effort is met well, but, mostly, I think it's not.
ReplyDeleteThat is not easy Bea, i know, beleive me.
