four in the morning

I've been awake since four in the morning, I woke up in a panic and I've been awake ever since, probably the thing that scares me the most is mice.

I heard a mouse, or so I thought, and I couldn't continue sleeping, I brought Philip the cat into the room, I never allow him to enter the bedroom but this time he had a role, he purred happily and was excited but it didn't seem that he suspected anything. He is an excellent hunter and I trust him.                                                         Soon I will turn on the TV and reality will take over my thoughts again. The frequency of the alarms and the rocket fire here is decreasing, but there are still sounds of war in the background.                                              My daughter is supposed to go to London for work for a week and I will be with the  grandchildren. I warn her not to speak Hebrew in the street and to hide any identifying mark ץ                                                                                                                                                                      Doesn't it remind you of other dark times?

  1. My cat, Freddie, used to bring live mice up into the bedroom at night, I would then have to spend ages trying to find them. I suppose he considered them a gift!

Yes, there's definitely a feeling of Nazi Germany in the air. Have we learned nothing???

  2. All the false BBC reports that contribute to this, and the innocent people who believe it and echo these lies and are sure they know everything. I will continue to argue with them here in blogland even though there is no point. Some of them are too old and I don't feel comfortable and the one who is just stupid and uncompassionate.

  4. your post worries me. I have never been confronted with antisemitism in the uk and realise I am lucky. I was brought up by parents who preferred to do business with Jewish people and was often taken visiting to see 'young Goldstein' on weekends. I had a big surprise when I first met him as he was quite elderly. He had been known to the family for a few generations so had to differentiate between his father and grandfather. I do hope your daughter gas a good visit to London. Yael.

  5. There is something awful about frightening thoughts during the day, but at least we can read, watch tv, work and talk to others during the day. But at night the brain is empty and nothing diverts the frightening thoughts flooding in :(

Has anyone suggested to you a way of being peaceful when trying to sleep? Since my mother died under hideous circumstances 7 years ago, I am still desperate for a night without nightmares.

  6. There is something comforting about your daughter travelling to London, hopefully, and you writing about a mouse.
However I know the war is continuing.
I hope you can enjoy the company of your grandchildren without the sounds of rockets.

  7. She would prefer not to travel, she has no choice, it's part of her job. In normal times she stays another day to shop, this time she probably won't do it and will come right back home.

  11. Spending a week with your grandchildren will be wonderful. I imagine you will be cooking and together enjoying some of their favorite dishes and deserts. I wish your daughter safe travels to London. I look forward to the day you tell us the rockets and bombs have stopped. Sleeplessness makes for a tired next day. I hope you sleep better tonight.

  13. Your daughter should have no more concerns about London than I or my own daughter should. It is one of the safest cities on earth. Everyone is simply going about their own lives. As with anywhere, you don't go to silly places or out at silly times, although probably it would be perfectly all right if you did.

  14. Thank you for the reassuring comment. She travels to London at least twice a year and I've never worried, but maybe now I'm doing exactly what I think others are doing in relation to what's happening here, I'm influenced by the media that describes extreme hatred of Jews in London, and maybe things aren't really like that. I really hope I'm wrong in my fears. She travels for work and doesn't have much time to travel.

  15. Know that your anxiety, grief, trepidation — is ours. Meaning those of us who value babies and children. I cry every day reading about the atrocities. I am not Jewish but I am a human. Hoping that peace descends upon the region. I have contributed to Tel Aviv University emergency fund
