After the adrenaline of the survival instinct in wartime, the adrenaline of fear and distress subsides, there is a phenomenon that I hear about from many people, and it is the same for me. Suddenly there is great fatigue, great sadness and a feeling of helplessness, it has many names, mainly it is a very big drop in stress.
Something inside us is still very alert, because at any moment everything can start again. We know nothing. We learn to appreciate the moment. We can shower again for as long as we want, without fear. We can drive on the roads without fear. And we can sleep all night, if we don't wake up in a panic because maybe there was a warning and we didn't hear it. All of this is of course only true for certain parts of the country. In the north, they are still being shot at all the time. The children are afraid to go to school and sleep in shelters, if they have any.

Glad to know that you are ok. Keep going!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Frances. I'm fine and I hope it stays that way.
DeleteJajcee,It's something you learn to deal with, I learned and I'm still learning.
DeleteThe stress must be difficult to bear for so long. I hope that you remain safe x
ReplyDeleteDear Yael, I hear you. And I note that even when you're safer you still remember the people who arent. I hear your exhaustion and sadness, and I hope for better days.
ReplyDeleteIt turns out you learn to live with everything, and I'm glad I can do that. Thank you.
DeleteStress is exhausting and all the more so when the cause ceases and you don't know if it's finally finished.
ReplyDeleteWe truly live in the moment, knowing that at any moment everything can change. But we try to live well, as much as possible.
ReplyDeleteI can imagine that all those weeks of stress accumulate to cause fatigue. At least you can breathe easier for the time being. Enjoy some outdoor time if you can!
ReplyDeleteIt's strange that amidst all this I managed to maintain a routine and didn't give up on myself. Not everyone here was so lucky to be able to maintain a routine.
DeleteThe ongoing stress has to be exhausting. Living day-to-day and the not knowing while missiles fly has to be terrible.
ReplyDeleteThe not knowing is common in the US too. The world is on fire and we, the people, are left in the dark. There seems to be no peace plan, only war with negotiations faltering.
Indeed, the whole world is in a state of uncertainty, not everyone understands this.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you can have some sort of normality. But there's always that uncertainty, one ear listening for a siren. Im glad to hear youre safe. Maybe one day you'll be able again to talk about your garden instead of war
ReplyDeleteYou understand the situation very well Linda. I write about the war because it helps me, the situation is so incomprehensible and only when I describe it in words do I manage to understand a little. These are situations from movies or books I once read, sometimes I can't believe I'm the one in this situation.
DeleteThis was for you

I read it and I thank you very much John.
DeleteYour insightful posts and beautiful photos from your garden are vital. So good to hear from you, Yael.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I was also able to maintain a routine and take care of the garden as much as I could.
DeleteThe whole world would be a far better place if Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran, would stop their constant aggression. As we are currently seeing, they have nothing to gain from it.
ReplyDeleteYou also forgot the Houthis from Yemen... Thank you Cro for being such a good friend over the years.
DeleteIf only there could be an end to this. In the UK there have been attacks on the Jewish community and I don't see anything coming except escalation. I hope you can enjoy some normality and sleep better. Betty
ReplyDeleteBetty,Indeed, Jews in London feel less safe now. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThinking of you, as always, Yael. Xx
ReplyDeleteChritina, I'm thinking of writing a post about the compassion people show here, and it's about people like you too. Thank you.
DeleteThere is so much beauty in your garden, given for free by nature. It is only mankind where there is always fight for more - more power, money, or land. And the majority of people, who just want to live a normal life in peace, have to suffer.
ReplyDeleteI hope there will be a solution for your country very soon. Until then, every peaceful day is good. I pray for you and your family and Israel every day, and for the Jews who are attacked here in Europe, too.
Hilde in Germany
Hilde, Thank you for being here as always. See my previous comment, you too are one of the people in my opinion who have the ability to express compassion exactly when it is needed.
ReplyDeleteHello, Yael. To see a post from you is a relief. I am so sorry that your people have suffered the pains of war over and over. Saying prayers for the madness to stop and that there will peace on the earth. Sending good thoughts and a wish for the safety of you and loved ones. Audrey Richardson
ReplyDeleteDear Audrey, thank you, I wish there were many more good people like you.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see a post from you. Hope we can see an end to all wars and find a way towards peace.
