And again the alarm sounded at 4.21 in the morning. It was a good thing I had my shoes and phone ready so I could quickly take them on the way to the shelter. We passed through the neighbors' yard and with trembling legs, while the alarm was still audible, we opened the iron door and went down the stairs to the shelter.
After that, two young families arrived with their small children, one of whom brought the blanket with him that he sleeps in bed with, and the dog Bella who is very frightened as always by the alarms.
We waited ten minutes until we heard the explosions and still with trembling legs, I returned home.
Merry Christmas to all of you, wherever you are.
Merry Christmas to you too Yael.
ReplyDeleteEverytime I read about the rockets, I think of you.
I think we're nearing the end of this conflict now, and you will have peace.
Hope your family stay safe also.
Big hugs
Liam.
Thank you Liam, I wrote "shaky legs", but it's important for me to note that I can still run, I hope you have a happy and enjoyable holiday.
DeleteWhat a terrible night you had! I was awake at 4.21, but warm and safe in my own bed.
ReplyDeleteMay you have at least some peaceful days, I think one can live only one day to the next, and it is good that we don´t know what the future holds for us. But if I could wish only for one thing, it would be "peace on earth for all people of good will"
Hilde in Germany
Hilde I wish you a Merry Christmas, and thank you again for your kind words as always, it means a lot here.
DeleteAnd probably some poor souls returned to find their homes in a pile of rubble. Lets just hope that some solution can be found. Maybe Trump will help things along? Best wishes, xx.
ReplyDeleteLuckily, there isn't much damage, but we are promised a few more nights like this.
DeleteBe safe!!
ReplyDeleteDespite my family saying they have been safe so far, I don't think I could cope permanently on alert. I asked my grandson to come to Australia until the war ends but he is firmly fixed in Tel Aviv.
I can understand your concern as a grandmother, from a distance things look even scarier than they really are. The fear is not felt here, there is more sadness and pain for the 100 kidnapped people still in the tunnels in Gaza and for the unfortunate families who were hit so hard on October 7th.
ReplyDeleteSo much for goodwill to man and peace on earth. Your reality is a little different. What a terrible way to start the day. I'm glad to hear you're safe. May you and your family always be safe.
ReplyDeleteIt's unbelievable how much adrenaline one rocket at four in the morning can produce. I managed to go and buy everything I needed at the small supermarket here, I cooked a lot, cleaned a few things at home, and now I'm waiting for my afternoon nap.
ReplyDeleteThank you Yael. I wish you well, be safe.
ReplyDeleteThank you Teresa.
DeleteDear Yael, so sorry this is happening to you, when many are looking forward around the world, to a happy time. You and ukraine are being badly attacked. The sound of the sirens stay with you.
ReplyDeleteI hope the rest of this period , which should be symbolising ,the return of the light, to the world, is peaceful for you.
Sending our best wishes to you, Yael and your family.
Kathy
Thank you Kathy. Today is also the first day of Hanukkah here, which is a holiday of joy, light, and miracles, and I hope the good times will come soon.
Delete"The fear is not felt here, there is more sadness and pain for the 100 kidnapped people still in the tunnels in Gaza and for the unfortunate families who were hit so hard on October 7th."
ReplyDeleteSending love to you and your beloveds, the 100 kidnapped people, the unfortunate families, and all who are experiencing ongoing sadness and pain, as the first night of Hanukkah approaches, the festival of lights and a great miracle.
am, I lit Hanukkah candles and that soft light that I love so much really helps banish the darkness.
ReplyDeleteI realize it's New Testament, but in my mind I'm hearing the Christmas story from the Book of Luke: "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."
ReplyDeleteIndeed, everything depends on the goodwill of people, but unfortunately we have no way to direct some desires.
DeleteDear Yael, it is unimaginable what you have to go through, and I am thinking a lot of you. The change from peaceful normal life to uncertainty and danger - so awful. I hope that you and your family and friends stay safe. My best wishes, Britta
ReplyDeleteBritta, while sitting in the shelter with the young neighbors and the little children who were taken from their beds by their parents who ran the hundred meters with them to the shelter during the alarm, I think to myself that this is like a scene taken from another time, after a few minutes we get out and life seems to go back to how it was before. It's a strange dynamic of human mechanisms that constantly want to cling to the good. And I really hope that things will get better soon.
ReplyDeleteThe reality that you live with is terrible. I hope it gets better.

DeleteThank you Judy for the comment, I deleted the troll's comment. The truth is that they also murdered the people in the kibbutzim, those elderly people who waited for them every week at the border and took them and their children to hospitals in Israel.
DeleteOh yes, I knew that. I can't believe the rubbish my ps supporter friends are saying. I am trying to stay neutral, but they are changing the course of history on their social media, and I can't stay quiet lol I just wish they would give up the hostages, but I don't think they will!
DeleteJudy, I was very happy to see your comment, I'm sure you're not the only one who saw this, but you're the only one who commented properly, people consume so much distorted news and ignore the terrible thing that happened here, so few really understand and it's a shame. It was another night of running to the shelter, maybe I'll write about it later.
DeleteI hope that this will end in peace soon, for you, the young families and the dog!
ReplyDeleteI have often said that I couldn't run to save my life. ( bad hip and knee) but it is a terrible reality for you, I won't say it again!!......did you have a quiet night last night?
Dear Frances, tonight I proved to myself again that I can still run. I have exactly one minute before the missile can reach me, and I did it. Thank you.
DeleteThank you for the Christmas greetings Yael. Do you celebrate Christmas or do we say Happy Hanukkah. I see "they" are saying Jesus was a Palestinian now. History is being re-invented before my very eyes. I hope this all ends soon and you can get back to normality.
ReplyDeleteJudy, we celebrate both, but everything is very simple and modest, several family members are not Jewish so we benefit from all worlds. And in relation to changing history, if they distort what is happening in the present, it is clear that they will also begin to distort history.
DeleteAnvicloud, I also hope for better days.
ReplyDeleteDearest Yael, knowing you went through that upsets me.That you are well enough to write a new post is an answer to my prayers for you .--Mary
ReplyDeleteThank you Mary, I think I’ll write more later today.Yael
