Here and now

There is a time when things that we liked so much  are not a big fun as they used to be, like washing the dishes after Friday supper.  Here it is still fun.

  1. That is cute, in the best way. I wash dishes in the Israeli way - individually. My Israeli girlfriends were impressed with this, but my British peers do not understand. Hygiene eh?

    1. I remember you mentioned it sometime, I did not know that it is the Israli way until I saw how they wash the dishes in Germany 30 years ago...

  2. A sweet picture. :)
I think anything kids do to help while standing on a shrafraf is fun for them and for us.
    Shabbat shalom, Yael.

  4. I remember sitting on the counter drying, as my mother handed me the washed dishes. That was very long ago--1946, I'd judge.

  5. I always avoided dish washing, and drying, as a child, but now ... three times a day I stand at the sink and wash dishes, but place them on a rack to dry. I think it is more hygienic to drain dry them [well that is my story!]. It is lovely to see the little ones not avoiding that chore.

  6. What a cute little girl. Small children love feeling useful around the house, too bad it's not the same once they're teenagers!

  7. I very rarely wash dishes as my wife puts everything in the dish washer. However, when she's away I actually quite enjoy it. I only use one of everything, never allowing things to pile up, and either sing or whistle as I do so. I should also add that I have no idea how the machine works.

    2. P washes up every night although we have a dishwasher. He seems to enjoy it so I have long since given up saying anything. I think he does it in the TS way, very thorough. I didn't know it had anything to do with Israel. P also does not know how the machine works.

  10. I can't remember ever helping my mother to wash or dry the dishes, but maybe she was afraid that I'd break them.
Our dishes go in the dishwasher, but I still seem to wash quite a few things by hand. Unfortunately I don't have a lovely little girl to help me.

    1. We are not Orthodox Lesley, but you are right, they are doing so not to mix meat and milk as they believe is forbiden.

  12. How cute, and very attentive with her chore too. Her hair is beautiful! Washing dishes is like a game at that age, isn't it. Italians also rinse the dishes individually under running water. Double sinks. Greetings Maria x

    1. Thank you Maria,so we have to tell TS that it is not the israeli way, also the Italians/

  13. Growing up it was a daily chore for the children and now that I am retired I have started doing it again as your dear granddaughter is seen here. It almost feels therapeutic.

  15. I have always despised doing dishes. I don't even like loading/unloading the dishwasher. Sad, isn't it?! My grandmother said I come by it honestly though, my dad always hated doing dishes too!

  16. Oh, as for me, the greatest fun was vacuuming. I still like it to do alone creating some stories.

  17. I wash the dishes all day long . After I make something, I compulsively wash up immediately. When my wife cooks, I clean up the kitchen afterwards. Been doing that for 32 years now.
